North's Call
The sun shone, the wind blew, and the leaves in the trees were not the only things stirring. Shasta's heart had always longed for adventure. In the early morning hours while the rest of her world slept she would lie awake in her straw-stuffed bed and hope to one day be a part of a larger story. Confined to her quiet life of farming and solitude, she was given much time to dream about days to come and how she would one day break out of the ordinary and find the extraordinary before her time on this earth had passed. The rolling hills making up and surrounding her farm were covered in the most common of plants: corn, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, and carrots. Everything around her told her she was silly to hope, and yet her heart spoke otherwise.
