Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Book Nook app (hereby referred to as "Application") for mobile devices that was created by Sarah Marie Lutter (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as a Free service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".

Information Collection and Use

The Application collects information when you download and use it. This information may include information such as:

  • Your device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address)
  • The pages of the Application that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages
  • The time spent on the Application
  • The operating system you use on your mobile device

The Application does not gather precise information about the location of your mobile device.

The Service Provider may use the information you provided to contact you from time to time to provide you with important information, required notices and marketing promotions.

For a better experience, while using the Application, the Service Provider may require you to provide certain personally identifiable information, including but not limited to Email, Name, and User ID. The information that the Service Provider requests will be retained and used as described in this privacy policy.

Third Party Access

The Service Provider may share your information with third parties in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

The Application stores your account and library on Book Nook's secure servers so they sync across your devices. This covers:

  • Sign-in, account management and password reset
  • Your books, shelves, reading sessions and goals
  • Posts, comments, reviews and group activity you choose to share

Book details and covers come from the Book Nook database.

The Service Provider may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:

  • As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process
  • When they believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect their rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request
  • With their trusted service providers who work on their behalf, do not have an independent use of the information disclosed to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement

Advertising and Measurement

Book Nook uses Meta (Facebook and Instagram) to measure which of its ads bring people to the Application and to show its ads to people likely to enjoy it. For this, the Application and this website send Meta information about how they are used:

  • Events such as installing and opening the Application, signing up, adding, finishing or rating books, joining groups, following readers, posting, and sharing or inviting. Events carry counts and kinds only. The text of your posts, comments and reviews, the titles of your books and your contacts are never sent.
  • To match these events to Meta accounts: your email address, first and last name and country, each turned into a one-way hash before it is sent, and a hashed form of your Book Nook account ID.
  • Your device's IP address, user agent, model, operating system version, language, time zone and screen size, and an anonymous identifier set by Meta's software.
  • Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you allow tracking when iOS asks. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, Tracking.
  • On trybooknook.com, the Meta Pixel records page views and taps on the App Store and "Open in Book Nook" buttons, along with your browser's IP address, user agent and Meta cookies.

Meta uses this information under its own privacy policy. You can manage how Meta uses information from other businesses in your Facebook or Instagram settings, under Accounts Center, Your information and permissions, Your activity off Meta technologies.

Contacts and Invites

Find friends in the Application can check which of your contacts already use Book Nook. It reads your contacts only after you allow access in iOS, and only while you use that screen.

  • The email addresses in your contacts are turned into one-way hashes (SHA-256) on your device. Only the hashes are sent to Book Nook's servers, where they are compared with the hashes of account email addresses.
  • The servers return the matching Book Nook accounts and do not store the hashes or anything else from your contacts. Names and phone numbers in your contacts never leave your device.
  • Contacts are not used for advertising and are not shared with anyone.
  • Your own account can be found this way by people who have your email address in their contacts. Your email address is never shown to them. You can turn this off in Edit profile with "Let people find me by email".

When you invite a friend, the Application opens Messages on your device with the invite filled in. The message is sent by you, from your phone. Book Nook does not send it and does not see the recipient's number.

If someone joins Book Nook from your invite link, Book Nook records that you invited them, and the two of you follow each other.

Opt-Out Rights

You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling it. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.

Data Retention Policy

The Service Provider will retain User Provided data for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. If you'd like them to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via the Application, please contact them at support@trybooknook.com and they will respond in a reasonable time.

Children

The Service Provider is committed to protecting the privacy of young users. While the Application is rated 4+ and is suitable for a general audience, it does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13.

The Application asks only for a name, an email address and login credentials to create an account. Login credentials are stored securely on the device.

If the Service Provider becomes aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information beyond what is necessary for account access, that information will be promptly deleted. Parents or guardians who believe that their child has provided such information can contact the Service Provider at support@trybooknook.com to request its deletion.

Security

The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. The Service Provider provides physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information the Service Provider processes and maintains.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes to the Privacy Policy by updating this page with the new Privacy Policy. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

This privacy policy is effective as of 2025-04-23 and was last updated on 2026-10-03.

By using the Application, you are consenting to the processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us.
