Nic
Nic is a queer youth who learned to hate himself at a young age. After a painful suicide attempt and a difficult reconstructive surgery, Nic is kicked out by his zealot grandmother and sent to live with family in Nebraska. There he unexpectedly finds a fierce love and acceptance with his older half-sister, Jessie, and a sensitive best friend named Connor. His plans to stay just under the radar and cruise through high school unnoticed are derailed his senior year when he meets a Marine Corp veteran named Paul who is also the manager at the theater where Nic works after school. The two are instantly attracted to each other but Nic can't get his grandmother's condemning voice out of his head and Paul has issues of his own as a husband and father who is living the life his own father, a Marine Corps colonel, orchestrated for him. The two young men continue to draw closer together despite navigating the perils of their own lives.
