Can you really trust your dreams when everything around you changes? In the fall of 1952, at age 17, Canadian Jennifer Ware is taken out of high school, given a six-week, teacher-training course, and sent to a one-room schoolhouse in Ontario, against her wishes. There she struggles to understand what will lead to her success or failure while also learning to cope with her own dilemmas as a teenager. Jennifer's father makes arrangements for her to live with Will and Evelyn Hill, an overworked, farm couple in their old house which doesn't even have running water. Having always imagined herself a romantic heroine, the realities of rural life just don't measure up to her dreams. Or do they? Jennifer meets tall, blue-eyed Evan Tyler and promptly falls in love. Coming from a troubled home where her parents continually argue-especially over religion- she discovers, to her dismay, that not only are the Hills devout Christians, but so is Evan. Can she wean him away from the church? Can she hold her own life together as she struggles to keep order in the classroom, juggle her work-load, and handle the parents of the disruptive class bully? Will Evan become that special someone of her dreams? Jennifer chronicles the journey of this inexperienced, young girl who is wrestling with all the new truths confronting her on her path to Christ.
