ORA: The Rising Sun
Giving insights to the pre-colonial Igbo culture, an African ethnic group now in Eastern Nigeria, and set in 1720s, Ora the rising sun explores the journey of a girl named Kambili who was born with a mission to rise with the sun and wake her sleeping generations to come that would be locked in the chains of mental slavery and would despise their ancestors. Splurged with terror, with raids, blood, and captivity and kissed with love, bravery, wisdom and tales of the future, this book sees Kambili in chains and watches her sail across the Atlantic to the New world (America) on a slave ship. This, being enough to crumble anyone, especially any slaves who finds herself in the farm under a wicked mistress, leaves Kambili more courageous and more zealous to shine light in the path for her people who would loose their tongue, their culture and their spirituality in time to come as African slave trade spreads because her ancestors had seen the Uga Azi, the age of ignorance. After getting an education, exploring the world of writing, Kambili marries her master’s son and moves to Boston with him where she would later meet with Ora, the God of the rising sun.
