The Modern Story: The Time Is Upon Us
The first installment in The Modern Story series explores the life of a teenage boy, Kyle, and the unusual events surrounding his life. It was a cold dreary morning on Pennyboat Lane when Kyle looked out his bedroom window at the bleak streak of clouds above, a perfect precursor for the day ahead. He gently rubbed his bleary, sleep-deprived eyes and took a large deep breath, consuming the air around him like a vacuum before releasing it back into the room, creating a stretch of steam on the frosted glass. Kyle, one of three siblings in the Dillon household, was a senior in high school and captain of the school hockey team. He was set to play left wing at Donovan University in the fall on a full-ride scholarship, but he was eager to take another shot at the high school state championship after falling short the year before. He had grown three inches in the last six months and was working hard to put on muscle to build out his five-foot-eleven-inch frame in preparation for college competition. His arms were lean but muscular, though he’d need to work on his lower-body conditioning over the summer. Kyle remained at the window, dazed, eyeing the quiet suburban street lined with neatly-mowed lawns and charming flowerbeds, completely unaware that his life was about to change forever.
