Freda's Flight

Gayla Cloud

Although Megan feels sad and upset at the death of her cherished cat Freda, she finds comfort through support of her family and friends. The funeral prompts a touching discussion and glorious images of heaven. So Megan realizes that though she will miss her, Freda is happy in heaven and they will be together again someday. Though this is a children's picture book, both children and adults can find hope and comfort in their grief when a pet or loved one dies. The Author Gayla Cloud is a college librarian and has written memoirs writing books and her mother's memoirs. She experienced multiple losses as a child and adult as did her daughter. Although this story takes place mostly in one day, typically it takes longer to reach the acceptance and hope that Megan did by the end. Though this book is considered fiction, especially the images of heaven, part of the grief process shown was based on real experience. It is my sincere hope that it will bring comfort and hope to anyone who has experienced a loss.
