Islam in a Nutshell: A Simplified Resource for All!

K. L. Thompson

What does Islam actually teach, and how does it differ from Christianity and Judaism? Step beyond the Standard Islamic Narrative and discover what archaeology and contemporary historical sources—both individuals and civilizations—actually recorded. Did Islam truly originate in Mecca and Medina, or was its emergence rooted farther north? Did Mohammad exist as described, or is his story more nuanced? Was the Koran divinely revealed, as Islamic tradition asserts, or did it evolve through more historical and human processes? Explore these questions and more in this clear and straightforward guide, thoughtfully written to engage readers of all backgrounds and spark meaningful reflection—without overwhelming complexity.

About This Project As Muslim populations grow within our cities, we are often told that Islam is an Abrahamic faith—that Muslims, Christians, and Jews believe in the same God, revere the same prophets, and share similar values. While these claims are frequently repeated, my own research and experience have shown that this is not entirely the case. This project was developed to provide a clear, accessible overview of Islam, designed especially for Christian schools, churches, families, and curious secular readers. It seeks to explore Islamic beliefs in comparison with Christian doctrine in a respectful yet honest manner. Key topics include: A comparison between Allah and YHWH, Jesus and Muhammad, Heaven and Paradise, and The Lord’s Prayer vs. the Islamic Opening Prayer An examination of the Trinity and Tawhid, and the differing portrayals of Isa (the Islamic Jesus) and the biblical Jesus A critical look at the Standard Islamic Narrative, including its historical and archaeological underpinnings The origin and meaning of the name MHMD An analysis of the "Common Word" initiative and the claim of a shared Abrahamic heritage An exploration of the composition and function of the Qur’an, Hadith, and Sharia law Each topic is presented in a concise 1–2 page format (a few extend to 4 pages), accompanied by visuals, highlighted fact boxes, and thought-provoking commentary. The material is non-intimidating, easy to follow, and suitable for a broad range of readers. For those wishing to delve deeper, comprehensive endnotes and an extensive bibliography are provided.
