DACHAU BEFORE DACHAU: European Artist Colony 1860-1914
This catalog accompanies the exhibition Dachau Before European Artist Colony, 1860-1914 which is showing for the first time in the United States. In the decades following the Second World War, the city of Dachau has been known for the tragedies that occurred under the Third Reich. But prior to the atrocities of the late 1930’s and early 1940's, the city of Dachau was home to a burgeoning artist colony judged to be the equivalent of the one at Barbizon, France. This catalog beautifully showcases these works along with an article by Dr. Elisabeth Boser, detailing the Dachau Artist Colony.
