Preston and Rina (Rina and Oamaru)

Preller Geldenhuys

This is a photo album, with some texts, about a baby boy Preston and his great grandmother, Rina. However, the mother and grandmother also features predominately. As does the father, grandfather and the two great-grandfather's. Preston is at the starting line of his life, whereas Rina is nearing the end of hers. Preston is a bundle of energy, having learnt to walk and run and now climbing stairs. He is starting to talk and learning new things daily. Rina is also learning to walk lately - for the third time. She suffered a disabling stroke about 30 odd years ago which left her totally paralysed on her right hand side. Just over a year ago she was discharged from Waikato Hospital in Hamilton after an unsuccessful abdominal operation to clear an intestinal blockage. She is currently an inmate at the Oamaru Observatory Lifecare Home and is managing to walk about 100 paces with the aid of a pronged walking stick. The Home permits two exeat weekends per calender month and maintain strict Covid protocols. These are maximised to enable bonding between Rina and Preston. Whereas it is early days for Preston, Rina's days are numbered. This photo album aims to cherish memories.
