Trial by Fire
Ex-veteran and disgraced cop, Rose Summers, wrongfully accused of killing a civilian, is offered protection by a shadowy organization and transferred to the seemingly idyllic town of Oakbridge. But behind the picket fences and prim hedges, the people of Oakbridge are harboring a perverse secret: their utopian vision is funded by gambling on a ruthless blood sport centered on a local prison. Standing up for herself and justice places Rose on the wrong side of Jim Stone, the man who offered her protection, and the unelected master of the town. When somebody tries to kill her, she discovers there’s no way out of the game she’s unwittingly stepped into. She has to win it if she’s going to survive. With help from a ragtag band of misfits determined to topple Jim Stone’s order, Rose quickly demonstrates she’s not the defenseless civilian Jim and his cronies are used to dealing with. Embracing her military past, she unleashes her training and experience on Jim’s militia and all hell breaks loose.
