Kingdoms of Sorrow
Six months ago the earth was plunged into darkness. Struck by a massive solar flare, the planet was left almost completely without electrical power - or the means to restore it. Now cities, nations, and governments lie in ruins: memories of an irretrievable life. There is no means of communication; no medical care; no food or water supply. There is no law enforcement. What remains are factions: survivors with varying ethical codes and the desire to live another day. Among the survivors are Scott Montgomery and his friends - now residing off-shore in a modern day fortress: the cruise liner Aquatic Goddess. Outside of their peaceful community, threats abound and amass. The mysterious Grayshirts continue to operate with sinister secrecy. What remains of the Navy pursues its goals with indiscriminate efficiency. A group of evangelical terrorists called The Messengers sweeps through each state like a biblical plague, destroying everything - and everyone - in their path. And these are just the human threats.
