The Other Side: A Moderate's Manifesto on How to Disagree
"In 2017, a young philosophy professor named Rebecca Tuvel published an article entitled "In Defense of Transracialism" in Hypatia, a premier feminist philosophy journal. Tuvel, who at the time was a recently hired assistant professor at Rhodes College, posed a provocative question: if people can change gender, can they also change race? The question had become salient two years earlier through the case of Rachel Dolezal (who has since changed her name to Nkechi Amare Diallo), the Spokane NAACP chapter president who publicly identified as black despite being born of white parents of European descent. Tuvel argued that the standard arguments for transgender rights-which she endorses-also apply to transracialism; thus, if we support (say) Caitlyn Jenner's identification as a woman, consistency may require that we also support Rachel Dolezal's identification as black"-- Provided by publisher.
