TURN THAT KEY, JUST DO IT: The Power of Taking Action

ANTHONY RAPHAEL AMOAH

Except from chapter two SELF-THE PERSON, I THINK I AMOur concept of ourselves is very important to our achievements in life. John Lilly said, “in the province of the mind, what one believes to be true, either is true or becomes true.” Yet again, the Bible says in Prov. 23:7 “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” “Your life is ruled by your thought patterns. Therefore, until you develop good thought patterns about who you are, you cannot have a good life. This is because, you eat, drink, walk, dress, work, pray and act what you think you are.”1 Thus your life is guided by your self-concept, the person you think you are. What do you think of yourself? Are you a failure? Are you weak? You can’t make it? If you think negatively about yourself, you are going to act negatively which would lead to negative results. If you think there is nothing good about your life, then you are not going to take action towards anything. The limits to taking action towards our dreams are in our minds. Action proceeds from the mind. In order to move into action about our dreams, we need to improve our self-concept (the person I think I am). The truth is that you act according to what you think you are. If you think of yourself as a failure, you will act as a failure. If you think you are poor, your decision would lead you to poverty. Moreover, if you think you are a champion you are going to act like a champion which would lead you to become a champion. If you think of yourself as a success, you begin to act in accordance with your beliefs which would result in what you think about (success). In the book, the power of your subconscious mind, John Murphy said “If you think good, good will follow. If you think evil, evil will follow. This is the way your mind works. What you have to understand is that one’s subconscious mind accepts an idea it begins to process it. The law of the mind is this; you will get a reaction or response from your subconscious mind according to the nature of thoughts or ideas you hold in your conscious mind. The person you think you are leads to the actions you take in life which in turn leads to results. What picture do you have of yourself? Are you bold, optimistic, beautiful, hardworking, smart, intelligent, sociable, analytical, etc? Except from chapter three DISCIPLINE Discipline is a set of principles that guide behavior. They are methods, guidelines, or conducts of practice. One of the greatest challenges of life is to be disciplined. Easily used and stated, yet it is one of the difficult principles to implement in every field of operation. However, its effective implementation easily crystallizes into great success in every field of operation. Discipline is a desideratum. ” In Prov. 5 the Bible says, “now then, my sons, listen to me; do not turn aside from what I say. Keep to a path far from her, do not go near the door of her house, lest you lose your honor to others and your dignity to one who is cruel, lest strangers feast on your wealth and your toil enrich the house of another. At the end of your life, you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. You will say, “I hated discipline. How my heart spurned correction! Discipline has a positive correlation to success in any field of endeavor. There are several reasons people may not be disciplined such as bad habits, lack of knowledge, lack of control, poor mindset, etc.
