The Wilderness Training School: Powerful Lessons in Numbers
It could have taken twelve days for the people to reach the promised land. But it was necessary for God to transform a collection of disparate people who had lived in Egypt for four hundred years, a good proportion of that time in slavery, into a new cohesive nation, dedicated to the worship and service of God in order to be the channel between God and all mankind. Because of many rebellions, the journey took forty years. The large number of people that left Egypt under Moses leadership were not only Hebrews, for they had been joined by many others from other nations desperate at that time to flee from Egypt ruined by the plagues. It was therefore essential that God weeded out all the misfits and trouble makers (including those of Israel); for those not willing to surrender to God’s authority over their lives would be a stumbling block to those who wanted to go on and live according to God's laws. The book of Numbers is not a historical diary of the journey; rather it is a collection of outstanding events along with laws and rules for everyday living given to the people by God through Moses that believers of today would do well to learn about and apply to their daily lives. Your are advised to read this greatly revised book, along with The Origin of Life (Genesis) and God Rescues His People (Exodus), all recently republished with additional material, and the important, recently published work on Deuteronomy, to give you the best foundational teaching on scripture you can have.
It is only by studying the writings accredited to Moses that Christians today are able to fully appreciate the teaching of the New Testament. After all the Old Testament was all the original church, founded by the Messiah, had available to them along with all the Messiah had taught them, much of which was quoted from the Hebrew scriptures.
Paul naturally based his teaching on the Word of God that is our Old Testament, yet attaches us how to live a life in tune with the Lord Jesus Christ. So why are modern Christians denying themselves such an essential treasure trove of foundational spiritual teaching that has the potential to lead them into a deeper and more profound knowledge of the God they purport to worship?
With the four books now available on Genesis, Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, written by a professional technical author (not theologically trained), and purely inspired by the Holy Spirit, there is now available an incredible resource on the foundational teaching God provided mankind with all the knowledge and understanding of Him and His ways to enable them to reach out and find Him.
So, why not grasp this opportunity to have the scriptures opened up to you in a new and inspiring way by reading these four books? With one word of caution. They are books to enable you to study the word of God for yourself, they are definitely not books just to read and then put down.
