Who knew it would turn out like this? Among the high cliffs of a small tropical island, one would think life would be a gift full of pleasantries. But just like the Atlantic Ocean can be calm and kind, she can also turn ferocious and uncontrollably wild. Maria's life unravels in twists and turns, in love and fear, alone and with family, at home and far away. Real life, strength, and faith along the path of fate. As a child, Maria had nowhere to hide from the breathing ghosts-no 911 to call or any kind of help because most people surrounding her were trapped in their own shadows, pains, and fears. The corn fields were her friends when she was little, for it was easy to hide and stay safe, protected by the thick corn stalks during extreme angry moments of the living ghosts and their attacks. "Don't breathe, don't move," she would repeat to herself while watching the cornstalks slightly move with the hunter's every step. Shivering, the icy cold fear would try hard to paralyze her, but her heart would remind her that she was loved. As the rays of the sun would beam through the leaves, warming her, they would show her the way to her inner light. It didn't seem safe, but she had to believe there was more to life. Freedom-that thought made her smile-and excitement-the kind of excitement that chases the wind. The gift of a horse reveals opportunities where she could garner her freedom, her love, and her wings. No darkness could stop her, and no mad person could catch her while racing with the winds. Nor could any misdeeds or threats be made to stop her from reading. Her imagination to other-worldly circumstances and events.After years of hardship and suffering, her heart remained malleable to love and compassion for the predators, for deep down she knew that they didn't know what they were doing.
