The Cinnamon Murder
Private detective Patrick Abbott and wife Jean are about to fly home to San Francisco when they run into Brenda Davison, a dazzling beauty, at the Waldorf where the rich gather to celebrate a return to normalcy at the end of World War II. Brenda fears for her life and the life of her three-year-old daughter. It looks very much like someone tried to poison the child. Young Katy Davison inherited most of the money in the Davison clan and suspicion falls on other members of the family who are having a hard time keeping up with the Rockefellers on a limited budget. Elizabeth is on her second husband, and thrice divorced Clive, a man with a talent for making marriages but not for making money. Her brother Peter desperately needs funds to save his business back west. He wants to marry the Anne Collier, a stunning goddess of a woman, but she's not convinced that Peter is husband material. Then there's a mysterious German count who collapses in Brenda's apartment during a party, a beautician who caters to the rich, and a cab driver who seems to have dedicated his life to insuring that the Abbotts always have a cab at their disposal.
