The #Dreadlocks Book

Nanami Taylor

Author's Note: The poems are haiku. Haiku is a Japanese poetry form which uses a specific number of syllables per line plus descriptive & emotional language, instead of rhyme. Take a look inside! Description: A poetic anthem and literary after-party for dreadlocks. The #Dreadlocks Book is a full of beautiful photos paired with delightfully original haiku poetry. Haiku poems are based on syllable count & written to emphasize emotion and feeling, as opposed to rhyming. The book celebrates a style that is "just hair", but is sometimes assigned a different meaning than the wearer intended. The original idea was inspired by a true event where the author's loved one was being harassed for wearing their dreadlocks. This final version was also inspired by Francesco Mastalia, Alfonse Pagano & Alice Walker's book Dreads, as well as Twisted: My Dreadlocks Chronicles by Bert Ashe. On the last page, the author drops a little knowledge. This short section is full of witty and entertaining answers to address myths and cheeky questions such as, "Are there bugs in your hair?". The #Dreadlocks Book was written to defy the social stereotypes of dreadlocks and look good while doing it. Celebrate your hair! Help someone celebrate theirs! Leave it on the coffee table. Start a conversation. Say it loud! Show the world the beauty of the diverse population of people who love and wear dreadlocks. Get it now!
