Restitution
Reuben's childhood is a troubled one, fraught with tragedy and aggravated by his perception of betrayal and neglect. As he matures, his attempt to find love and acceptance pushes him toward unprincipled companions who encourage his inclination to travel treacherous byways. For many years he stumbles along the rocky path of hatred and deceit, his journey becoming increasingly difficult as each direction he takes ends in abject wretchedness. Finally filled with guilt and remorse he toys with the idea of ending his mortality. His upbringing, however, has instilled in him a fear of the eternal retribution associated with such an act, so in desperation he seeks to dull his relentless pain by climbing into the bottle. Then a series of unexpected events forces him to explore new avenues, and it's now up to him to choose whether he will climb to success or slide back into oblivion.
