Old Haunts and Present Habitations

Jeffrey Shors

Old Haunts and Present Habitations is a story collection made up of eleven pieces and coming in at just under 60,000 words. The stories range from the short and punchy to the long and languorously Victorian. While not explicitly interlinked, the stories together present an attempt at contrasting the states of childhood and adulthood, the old Blakean realms of innocence and experience, although no neat dichotomies are insisted upon. The stories vary in tone and mode, ranging from exercises in science fiction (of a rather whimsical variety) and a kind of post-modern historical deconstruction to fairly straightforward examples of contemporary realism. The author's intent was to create a crisp and readable collection with compelling characters and absorbing scenarios in the hope of sustaining the reader's attention.
