The Kapooka Explosion 21 May 1945
Annotation. This booklet examines the establishment of the Royal Australian Engineers Training Centre (RAETC) at Kapooka in 1942 to centralise the training of engineers or sappers. Secondly it describes the explosion at Kapooka in 1945, the findings of the subsequent Court of Enquiry and the funeral of the twenty-six victims. It also includes a brief biography of each of these men. It concludes with a history of the Kapooka Tragedy Memorial and the memorial service each year, which has given the relatives and friends of the men who died in the explosion somewhere to acknowledge their death and express their grief publicly.
