Wow this book was incredible. At no point in the book was I certain about what was to come. There was very subtle foreshadowing for the twists and turns (my favorite kind), so I was delightfully surprised by new things uncovered. Soraya is my favorite type of fmc, strong, intelligent, and resilient. Despite all of the hardships and loss caused by the war, Soraya remained fierce and with iron-clad resolve to win the war. She is taken captive by the Dar’rak, specifically Ikarus, the enemy’s most powerful and feared general, since she is a very high-ranking soldier. In captivity, he attempts to find information in Soraya’s mind that could turn the tide in the war while they both learn more about the enemy side. I also love that the main characters are actually enemies and really hate each other. I loved the complexity and progression of their relationship. This was not quite a fantasy book as I thought it would be when I started. I would say it has elements from the fantasy, sci fi, and dystopian genres, so it was very fun and unique. I’m so excited to see what will come next in their journey!
