Dowry
Poet Janet Beeler says that in her work 'I try to tell the truth about who we are and what we feel. In these poems I've chosen the device of using varied women's voices, some from ancient times and imagined places, to speak of our common experience. All of the poems are intensely lyrical, are attentive to the sound of words as well as to meaning. They are poems to be read aloud. They are as free as possible of redundancy, of telling. I hope that they defy paraphrasing and speak for themselves, simply but urgently, of the risks and rewards of being."
