You're Next (Devil's Backbone)

Soph.October 2026

★★☆☆☆

Not going to lie, the spice actually ruined this book for me. Don’t get me wrong, I like a little smut but there’s a time and a place.. I get you’re all young and kinky but I do actually like a bit of story and plot with my books and it felt like that was just a back burner in this book.. (Spoilers ahead) Given the cliff hanger the last book left one, this book felt sloppy and rushed. The plot wasn’t very thick, there wasn’t any twists or loops to be hurled through which was disappointing given the first two books.. it’s was very generic, straight to the point, and anticlimactic 😬 I wanted to know how Jocelyn got Ashley to the Asylum/institute, how was Dr Fox still alive or was that actually her imagination? I would have like her to have been trapped there for a bit longer.. it all seemed too easy for Nate to just drive there and pick her up with no issues.. Were the society apart of it all along, did they actually have no clue this was all happening.. What’s the story with Royce’s mum?.. Jocelyn’s really been at this hypnosis for THAT long, by herself? And I just honestly didn’t understand why.. and I get that may be the point but after everythinggggg I wanted to know WHY Jocelyn was doing all of this, I wanted the villain origin story.. There was just so many unanswered questions too. Definitely my least favourite book in the series. Having said, I will miss these boys. Nate obviously #1 although the pain kink really did nothing for me 😬
