Jen

Bob Holt

Jen: Jen grew up in Martin County NC on Holly Springs Church Road. After high school graduation she spent 2 years at Martin Community College getting a 2-year certificate in bookkeeping. Her father encouraged her to travel to different places seeing different cultures and scenery. She dismissed his suggestion taking a job at June Day Manufacturing in Williamson. That got old fast and after 2 years, she decided to take her father’s advice first looking in the Caribbean but finding the business side much different from the tourist side. Seeing an ad online from a doctor’s office in Key Largo, she applied and weeks later was the bookkeeper for Dr. Cruiz. She met Stella there and they became best of friend sharing a duplex that Dr. Cruiz offered to his employees at a fantastic rate. Stella took Jen to Doug’s Conch Shack. Jen immediately locked onto Doug, the restaurant owner. Stella laughed, saying "Good Luck!" A month later, she met Matt, a drug peddler whose territory stretched from Jacksonville, FL southward to Key West. He asked her out and she accepted. They dined at Doug’s and Doug couldn’t keep his eyes off her. Apparently, he was interested in her too. He asked her out to dinner but on the day of their date, he was a no show at the restaurant but Frankie, the manager, said it happened sometimes. Jen, a very impatient lady, drove by his house not seeing his Jeep or any activity. Foolishly, she and Stella broke into his home not finding anything unusual. A little later, she called the highway patrol asking if Doug Willis had been in an accident. She shared with them the Jeep license plate number that she had found in his home. They called back saying that he had been involved in an accident on 7-Mile Bridge and was at Saint Thomas Hospital in Miami. She and Stella drove up after work on Friday identifying themselves as cousins of Douglas Willis. That gave them passes to CICU. They found him in a coma and waited to speak with Dr. Muzzolon, the surgeon in charge. After their conversation, they found themselves in front of a deputy sheriff from Miami Dade Sheriff’s Department. They confessed that they were not related just close friends. He enlightened them to the fact that Doug had been working for them undercover, transporting cartel kingpins from different locations up and down the Keys usually to Marathon and the sheriff’s department would follow them from there to their rendezvous location. He said that there was much more to the accident than what first appeared. He said that whoever he was transporting, were not there. Someone from a competing cartel had picked them up and probably disposed of them. He told them that the missing kingpin’s cartel would be trying to find the culprits and since they identified themselves as family, they would most likely be under surveillance. They were. The Sheriff’s department told them that they needed to disappear and with Dr. Cruiz’s help, they did. His brother-in-law was opening a new practice on Ocracoke, and he would gladly hire them. Three days later, they met Dr. Z when they got off the ferry at Silver Lake. Had they covered their tracks? Only time would tell and what about Doug? He was back in Maggie Valley with his family. They operated a restaurant there but he remembered nothing. Back on Ocracoke, Jen met Finn after her first day’s work. He owned and operated the Anchor and Chain Lounge. She, being her usual impetuous self, wanted him the moment she saw him, and it appeared that she had rung his bell too. Stella also met someone too. When the feds arrived to protect them, their lives were topsy turvy especially when they learned the feds might place them in the witness protection program and spirit them away from everyone and everything they knew. Jen was determined not to let Finn slip through her fingers, but how? There had to be a way.
