Underpinning knowledge is a level of knowledge that supports the general knowledge needed to achieve competence. Perhaps people forget to share this level of knowledge with learners, or perhaps they are not conscious of the need to share this level of knowledge. Underpinning knowledge helps you to understand WHY you have to follow certain steps.
