Ride the High Lonesome the Saga Continues

the unwanted request brought by Sheriff Reach had, he hated to say it, “rattled him to some degree.” That “old man,” rising up once again inside himself, that prodded him to ride that trail all those years ago, would not let him be. That internal drive that causes a man to take the bull by the horns no matter what the odds, when opposition to what is right and good is born. Resolving to throw iron quickly if need be, with no thought in mind but to get the job done. It didn’t matter how far he ran, he could never run away from himself. When he rode that now obscure trail, hunting down desperados, he was known as the best there was. Days and weeks of trail dust with no sleep, never giving fleeing felons opportunity to rest. Doggedly pursuing until there was no longer anywhere to hide, he would bring them in either sitting upright or lying across the saddle. He didn’t much care one way or the other. He could give as good as they gave. They could have it easy or hard, didn’t matter to him. Business was business, however they wanted it, he could give it to them, straight up and with no remorse…. All this reminiscing certainly wasn’t helping to bring peace to his troubled mind. He thought that perhaps a lonely ride into town might help soothe it. He needed to be alone with his thoughts and sort things out without any outside interference.
