GIWAYEN MATA's theme for 2013 is PERSEVERANCE! PERSEVERANCE was chosen because it best describes that which the Elephant Women of GIWAYEN MATA demonstrated as she overcame the opposition and judgments of some, while pursuing her artistry leading as one of the countries first All-Sistah dance AND drum ensemble. She continues to echo the sounds of Mother Africa twenty years later! SPEAK, SISTAH SPEAK!!, Preserving a Legacy is a Coffee Table Book herstorically reflecting 20 years of GIWAYEN MATA longevity. It is a collection of photos taken by some of Atlanta's most sought after photographers who captured GIWAYEN MATA moments from the beginning of GIWAYEN MATA's concert career. Graphically mounted on these colorful images are eloquent quotes, sayings, prose and poems about PERSERVERENCE, written by members of GIWAYEN MATA and other "Elephant Women". GIWAYEN MATA speaks to you with her hands as she preserves the birthright of our Legacy.
