Napoleon Bonaparte is rumored to have said that “history is a set of lies that people have agreed on.”What you will find in this book are my personal memories. I do not expect that they will all be agreed on because you have your own memories. But these are mine. I have endeavored to locate original documents when possible in order to certify dates, but there are doubtless mistakes in that regard. Many times I remember something happening, but don’t remember when it happened. That is common for all of us as we grow older.A little mimeographed book called “Still Climbing” is one of the best gifts I ever received from my father, Dr. Arthur Allen. I have often wished that I could go through that book and ask him the questions I never thought to ask when he was alive. For example, when we left Baker, Montana, he had Christmas cards printed with a house address in Missoula, Montana, as if it were a forgone conclusion that we would be moving there. Instead, we ended up in Dillon, Montana. I have never figured out why. So, I have written this partially to answer those questions in the minds of my children and grandchildren which they have not yet asked. However, the main reason for writing is to provide evidence of the truth found in II Corinthians 3:5-6 where it says that “our sufficiency is of God who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament.” I have been given the privilege of ministering both as a pastor and a college professor throughout my life, and whatever has been accomplished through that ministry has been because He has made me “able.”
