Raise the Flag

James More

Raise the Flag, is about the value of an education in the life of the author, who graduates from grade school, attends high school at Joliet Central, Lane Tech in Chicago, and graduates from Minooka with honors, before doing a most difficult, dangerous, demanding, challenging job of electrical lineman, suffers an agonizing injury forcing him to leave the security of his job, so at thirty one, he begins fulltime college classes in search of a career, earns a degree from Northern Michigan, and beyond his college classes he practices writing and does a home study course, so forty years after grade school, he publishes Raise the Flag. Raise the Flag is a story about a principal, who sees his job as an administrator is to keep students in school rather than stand in the way of their future. Beware of Your Barber is about how difficult defining goals can be in the early search for a career. Summer of Eighty Eight is from a memoir on the author's arduous path seeking an education. Uncle Sam and the IRS Man is an allegorical fiction, and this could be anyone, anywhere, and humanity has come a long way with advances in medicine and health care since overcoming the dark ages, killer plagues, wars against reasoning, and those growing pains in history not easily detected when standing so close to the picture, today. Lean Thy Arms Awhile is from a memoir and one story in the collection from Jake's Book, stories about going hunting, fishing, camping, and working and spending quality time with his dad. Something About Hats is from a memoir and a literary work of humor, which is said to be a universal medicine, and a work of drama in story form.
