The Changing of the Tide
In the lands now called the state of Massachusetts, there was fought a bitter fight for survival for the Indian tribes who suffered under European conquest during the sixteen hundreds. This is a love story of Tagaset, the son of Massasoit, and the beautiful indentured servant Abigail Cartwright of the Plymouth Colony. It is also the story of Metacomet, named by the English King Phillip, who fought to hold on to his lands for his people. He lost the war and died for his people and their cause. John Talbert, who came to the New World to practice his religion in freedom, and the Nipmuc Sassamon were loyal to Tagaset during these terrible years of war. Massasoit, who always held to his promise of loyalty to England, saw the war rage on for seven years. Finally the Indians lost and had to find a way to survive European conquest.
