Prodigies

"In the mid-1870s, Daniel, a street urchin in New York's dangerous Five Points district, attracts the attention of a criminal gang with his astounding hand-eye coordination. Elsewhere, Lincoln, a Tennessee-born child of ex-slaves, turns heads with his gift for geometry and mathematics, and Lily, an orphan working with a traveling circus, discovers her talent for talking with dogs. Daniel's gang and Lily's circus both set their sights on greener pastures in the west, while Lincoln becomes an apprentice to a steam-engine mechanic. Their paths converge in the Black Hills boomtown of Deadwood, where Lincoln is tasked by a power-mad mining baron with developing a steam-powered armed vehicle for hauling gold and supplies through bandit country, Lily becomes the star of her circus and Daniel acquires a reputation as the fastest gun in the west. Their lives are complicated by a traumatized Civil War veteran turned wolf hunter and the rebellious daughter of the local newspaper editor, and by the gifted trio's growing determination to use their special talents for good. Vivid settings, family tragedies, and a diverse cast of criminals, circus folk, lawmen, engineers, entrepreneurs, and a Reconstruction-era family of former slaves make Prodigies an immersive reading experience"--
