Jake and Me
Asleep in bed roughly six months after Jake passed, I woke to the sound and furious movement of rustling bedcovers. Big time cover rustling, like a miniature tornado was whirling under there. Quickly waking me from a deep sleep I looked over at the clock, it was two in the morning. Still groggy, assuming it was my wife I went back to sleep. For those who think they have lost their best friend forever, you haven’t. Here is a true account of the extraordinary signs I’ve experienced from my boy Jake, and what the power of love has shown me. From the first meeting at a puppy store I tell of our fifteen years together, attempting to paint a worthy and colorful picture of Jake and our life with each other. I describe what it was like to have a medical issue sneak up from nowhere, slowly shaping my realization that our joyous life together would not last forever like I thought it would. I tell of my heartache and his enthusiasm going through the process, and how we both fared until parting. I began to write our story after having experienced months of sadness followed by astonishing incidents gradually unfolding over time. Odd coincidental things began happening with a frequency that made me know my little boy had to be up to this. Incredible signs, inexplicable occurrences, some impossible to comprehend in the physical reality we are all familiar with. How it made me question my own perceptions until I had to believe. There was no other explanation, it was Jake. These events made me believe beyond doubt that he is still with me, and remains my loyal friend faithfully watching over and helping me each day.
