THE PATHLESS JOURNEY: Thoughts on the Nature and Development of Consciousness and Self-Awareness, Volume 1: Self-Observation
THE PATHLESS JOURNEY, Volume 1: Self-ObservationThe Pathless Journey is a series of philosophical essays on the nature and development of consciousness. It is a personal statement of inner transformation, the product of the author’s philosophical thinking following five years of research and introspection. The text is concerned with the question of human psychological development, exploring the idea of inner change in the light of scientific thought. It claims that real inner change is the change from Ego-centricity to Self-awareness and aims to uncover its logic. This is achieved by bringing together, for a systematic philosophical integration, the views of thinkers as diverse as Jiddu Krishnamurti, Carl Gustav Jung, Anthony de Mello, Arthur Schopenhauer, William James, Erich Fromm, Alan Watts, Benedict de Spinoza, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Ramana Maharshi and Ralph Waldo Emerson. It suggests that philosophy, psychology and religion have such change as their core subject matter and defends the view that there is a ‘perennial philosophy’. Sympathetic to mysticism, it defends the mysterious nature of the universe against both scientific and religious dogmatism.By putting the traditionally religious topic of inner transformation firmly in the light of modern scientific thinking, the book is meant for those seriously interested in the philosophy of the human condition and the interplay between philosophy, psychology and religion – be they academics or members of the general public. The question of what it means to be human has fascinated man since time immemorial. It remains most important. The text is presented in two volumes. Volume One deals with the phenomenon of psychological suffering and the importance of inner change through self-observation. Volume Two is more theoretical. It deals with the nature of the psyche, the logic of inner change and the higher development of the personality.
