Tales of St Patrick

Eileen Dunlop

The patron saint of Ireland, known as Sucat and later as Patrick, lived in the fifth century. He was born in the coastal area of Roman Britain. First taken to Ireland by force, he returned of his own free will. Bishop, saint and hero, Patrick was real, but he was also the kind of person who kindles the imagination and inspires legends. Tradition says that he died at Saul in Ulster on the 17th of March, but the exact year of his death is unknown.
