In each lifetime, she meets Arden, falls in love with him, and before her eighteenth birthday, he is the one who kills her. Their fates have been tangled together for centuries in a cycle neither of them seems able to escape. In her current life, however, things are different. Evelyn has something she never had before: a little sister whose life depends on her. Determined to survive long enough to keep saving her, Evelyn sets out to finally uncover the truth behind the curse that has followed them through countless lifetimes. But breaking the cycle wonβt be easy. To change her fate, Evelyn must find Arden before he finds her, discover why they are bound to destroy each other, and resist the one thing that has doomed them every time before, falling in love.</i> Our Infinite Fates was the March pick for a book club Iβm part of, and I was actually really happy about the choice because this book has been sitting on my TBR shelf for years. It finally gave me the perfect excuse to pick it up. Our Infinite Fates is built on a truly fascinating premise. The idea of two souls destined to fall in love and then destroy each other in every lifetime immediately caught my attention, and I was very curious to see how the story would explore that concept. The writing had a very poetic and atmospheric quality to it, and there were many beautiful lines scattered throughout the story. I also enjoyed seeing glimpses of Evelyn and Ardenβs past lives and how their paths continued to cross across different times and places. However, despite how much I loved the idea behind the book, I found myself wishing the story had explored it more deeply. The narrative moves between their present life and fragments of their past lives, but many of those moments felt quite brief and didnβt always add much in terms of character growth or development of their relationship. Because of this, parts of the story began to feel a bit repetitive, and I struggled to fully connect with the characters. For most of the book, the fantasy aspect also felt fairly subtle. The mystery behind the curse and why their fates are tied together isnβt explored in much detail until very late in the story, and once those answers finally arrive, the resolution happens rather quickly. I found myself wishing the mythology and the rules of their world had been woven more strongly throughout the entire book. There were moments where the emotional weight of the story came through, especially in Evelynβs determination to protect her sister, but overall I didnβt feel as deeply invested in the romance or the characters as I had hoped. This is one of those stories where I loved the idea behind it, but found myself wishing the execution had explored that concept a little more deeply. I can definitely see readers who enjoy poetic writing and romance-driven fantasy appreciating this one, it just didnβt fully work for me.
