Somebody's Wife
Charlotte was a woman in her mid-twenties, thought to be beyond marrying age in her 1880’s village, Louisquisset, a land grant community in north eastern Rhodes Island. She had answered several ads for mail order brides. Gentlemen from mid-west to west sought her attention. One man, Edgar McDougal, from the St. Louis Missouri area, caught her attention, and maybe her heart. In his mind, he was sure. With hope in the future, he sent Charlotte money for travel expenses. The emotions of leaving her home and father, were mild compared to the physical demands of travel, and the unknown problems that would arise.
