Datura Highway

Daniel King

As Datura Highway opens, Daniel Hunter is surveying the setting sun from a balcony on the fourth floor of the Complex, a building with a peculiarly changeable nature, in which he is trapped. How he got there and why he's trapped are but two of the mysteries he's trying to solve, with only a list of clues found in his pocket (which begins "GUILT", "LISZT'S PIANO SONATA IN B MINOR", "GAIA", "THE BEAT GOES ON"--No conventional clues, these), the vague memory that he's a private detective investigating a series of murders, and a strange black metal gun (which fires yellow light and, when it hits the right target, provides a rush of information) to help him. Pretty soon he's joined by Mimi O'Ryan, an easygoing school teacher who becomes a sort of Watson to his Holmes, though perhaps one who's a little too innocent for the dark territory Hunter is heading towards as he works his way through the Complex's weird spaces.
