Mass Corruption Volume 1: the Cops
Police corruption in Massachusetts has always been a problem, but it has gotten worse in recent years. An innocent woman named Karen Read was almost railroaded for a murder she didn't commit, and was in fact tried twice, even after being acquitted at her first trial. In the small same town of Canton, the same district attorney ruled that the murder of a pregnant young woman by her local cop boyfriend was a suicide, despite 32,000 text messages. That was a scandal so outrageous that the FBI was forced to intervene and arrest the boyfriend. But these are only the tip of the iceberg of police corruption in Massachusetts. Frameups are common in both state and federal courts. The Mass State Police have been convulsed by an endless series of scandals involving drugs, guns, embezzlement, domestic abuse and hiring of gangsters as troopers. More than 30,000 drug convictions have been tossed because of corrupt state drug-lab chemists, a scandal that was covered up by now-Gov. Maura Healey. Mass Corruption Vol. 1: The Cops is the story of these and many other corrupt events in MA in recent years, supplemented with seldom-seen photos from the archives of the Boston Herald.
