The Woman at the Gate: High Queens of Hesparia - Volume 1 (High Queens of Hesperia)

The Woman at the Gate combines an exciting and romantic adventure set long ago but in a world not so different from our own, with an unusual love story of a relationship between three amazing main characters, each of whom has her destiny to fulfill. The novel opens when a young and wealthy princess rescues an unknown female prisoner of war from certain death at her palace gate.

But what will happen when this simple act leads them both into a far deeper, more profound relationship than either of them imagines possible? As Alessa and her most trusted servant, Hesta, learn the dreadful truth about their mysterious visitor, the stakes suddenly rise dramatically, and it rests on Hesta to save their lives.

Set in a time of war, inflation, and a disregard for human life, this novel nevertheless shines with optimism and love and celebrates above all the positive power of women's sexuality and friendship. It is sad and painful in places, but also warm, satirical, and at times very humorous.

Maggie McIntyre, an established writer of contemporary romantic dramas, takes us away to a mythical land in this new book. "The Woman at the Gate" is the opening novel in an action-adventure series, "High Queens of Hesperia!, to be published in quick succession from late 2023 into 2024.

It's funny, it's romantic, it's definitely weird. What's not to love?
