This Is the Truth I Tell You
Imagine if we had a time machine and could be transported back to the year 30 - nearly 2,000 years ago - to the time Jesus walked the earth during His ministry. And we are walking with Him, listening to His words, amongst the others. Can you imagine - to hear His words first hand?! In this imaginary fantasy, we are with the only perfect person in the history of the world. He is the truth and He has on occasion, during His conversation, verbally reinforced the importance of what He is conveying by saying "this is the truth I tell you". This is not your common phraseology spoken or heard in everyday conversation. This phrase, and other wording very similarly related, are the focus of this book. The historians at Jesus' time, the authors of the gospels, recorded His words. The authors of the gospels actually lived in the time of Jesus - and this particular phraseology undoubtedly left a memorable impression with each author or storyteller where it was specifically remembered and written down. Matthew and John were actually with Jesus during His ministry before the cross. They has firsthand experiences with Jesus and His words every day. Separately - they each recorded what they remembered as important from their time with Jesus. Incredibly, they recognized the importance of Jesus' unique phraseology and recorded it for generatins to follow. Our other two authors, Mark and Luke, relayed to us the conversations they had with apostles Peter and Paul, respectfully. Undoubtedly, both Peter and Paul remembered and recognized the emphasis of Jesus with His phraseology and then conveyed that importance to their respective authors and their contribution to the good news. We ask ourselves, what was truly important to Jesus where He would underscore the importance of the message He was conveying by uttering "this is the truth I tell you"? "This is the truth I tell you" is the focus of this book.
