The Divorce
This is a true-life story about a dissolving relationship, where the couple who come from different parts of the former Soviet Union, discover that their vastly incompatible family values and goals in life make divorce the only solution. This is not how it all started. Christina, a young Ukrainian immigrant, had a wonderful job and a successful career path, when she met and fell in love with Algis, who was born in Lithuania. They married in haste and soon had two children, born a year apart. With time, it became clear that Algis was an incorrigible user who had no intention to get an honest job and preferred milking the government and those around him. At about the time their breakup became imminent, Christina's loving mother discovered unsettling signs that her son-in-law may be molesting her 7-year-old granddaughter. How the legal system and the child protection services failed both the mother and the child became a story in itself.
