In the peaks of an island, now part of the densely populated city of Hong Kong, an ancient beast awakens.

Winnie Yuen has spent her sixteen years feeling like a failure. Unable to measure up to her mother's beauty, her father's design skills, or the standards of her peers, she has given her allegiance to her belief in dragons. With the discovery of a mysterious blood red stone and a narrow escape from death, Winnie finds herself caught up in the revival of a legend.

Meanwhile, six months have passed since Tucker Kenworthy was swept away on an otherworldly mission to stop a rampaging dragon. When he returned to his small town life in Northern California, he expected things to be different, but instead, he's fallen back into the ruts of his old life as a truck driver, and has heard nothing from the woman who stole his heart.

The princess Ravinna has accepted a mission to travel from her world, where dragons are an everyday part of life, to a land where their existence has been written off as fantasy. She is eager to be reunited with Tucker, but worries her feelings for him will be a distraction from the task at hand. When she discovers Tucker's mother has slipped unexpectedly into a coma, she realizes convincing him to join her on a dangerous journey to the other side of his world will be an even bigger challenge than she first imagined.
