The Take

Graham Hurley

Product Description

A taut crime thriller that binds personal and public tragedy "A great British police procedural. Faraday is a fine creation." MICHAEL CONNELLY Detective Inspector Joe Faraday's Management Assistant, Vanessa Parry, is dead, killed in a head-on car smash. Her funeral is a bitter end to another grim week in the war against Portsmouth's surging crimewave. And now the seemingly untouchable DS Paul Winter has been hurt in a way he could never have predicted: his wife has cancer. It's inoperable and she has barely three months to live. But when life lays a finger on Paul Winter, he has only one instinct: lash out.

From AudioFile

It's a shame that American listeners sometimes bypass British audios in favor of the homegrown. That's because there are some listening gems imported from the British Isles--not even available here in print--that equal the better U.S. offerings. THE TAKE, read by Tim Pepper is one. This procedural has something for everyone. Inspector Faraday's assistant is killed, his colleague's wife is dying of cancer, a troubled surgeon is missing, and a serial mugger is on the loose. Pepper's smooth British accent is a pleasure to hear. He gives you a medley of characters that's not hard to take at all.
