The Good Samaritan
Kind-hearted Allie Bell wanted to be a nun, but her ambitions swiftly changed when she realized that her true calling was to become a nurse and help heal the wounded soldiers in the civil war. The work was difficult for her and she was constantly being ridiculed because she was a woman, but when the war was over she was proud of herself for everything she had accomplished and all of the lives she had helped to save. Now the war has ended, she has moved back to her home town of New Castle, Delaware. Nothing is quite as it was before and Allie soon grows saddened and lonely. She decides to look into becoming a mail order bride. Right away, she found an advertisement that was placed by a Mr. Heath Taylor. His was a Union soldier in the war and he is now a farmer in Texas. He writes of the horrified and embarrassed Confederates in Texas not treating him well, and about his cruel aunt not taking too kindly to his return. He and Allie form a bond almost instantly and it is not long at all until she travels to Brenham.Unfortunately, all is not right in the small town. The hatred for Heath is soon pointed at Allie as well. Can she do anything to mend the broken hearts and the animosity of the townsfolk? Can she show them all that Heath is not someone to dislike?
