Gold Then Iron

Marty Duncan

An American officer aboard a British motor torpedo boat sees most of the crew killed by a German mine. Lt. James Harant (US Navy) recovers from a long swim at Glenstal Abbey, outside Galway, Ireland. While there, the abbot asks for his help to find a monk and a priceless artifact. A British admiral puts Harant with two leftenants, Bill Emery and Heather MacKay. Their mission is code named Dragonlair, a "training" exercise to Minnesota's iron mines to find the missing monk.

The artifact is a golden eagle covered with shiny gems, a ransom paid by the Ameer of Antioch during the 6th Crusade. It is an Eagle with upraised wings-a symbol of Nazi hegemony- and some believe it contains the Cup of Aramethia, known as the Holy Grail. Of the three naval officers, only Lt. Harant knows their real mission is to help locate German spies on the East Coast. Trailed by thugs, almost killed by two assassins, Lt. Harant narrowly avoids falling into a trap laid by German Naval Intelligence.

Their mission failed. The Eagle of Christus remains hidden in Minnesota. Readers are invited to solve the very real puzzle of where Brother Godfrey Harris hid the Eagle.
