Things We Remember
This book was written by my father, Jack L. McSherry. He served in the United States Navy from 1907 until 1923 at which time he enlisted in the Navy Reserve, joined the Fleet Reserve, and lived as a civilian. He retired in 1937 after 30 years of service. In May 1941, seven months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he was recalled into active service and spent several years on a mine sweeper in the Atlantic, and served until November 1946, at which time he was again placed on the retirement list of the United States Navy. With this setting in mind, the reader may enter the pages of this book to live the life of a sailor in the United States Navy. travelling throughout the world, meeting and enjoying the companionship of people of all nations, a journey into the study of human nature, and the reminiscences of a man who has lived an honorable life in harmony with his fellow man-a man who has served his country well through many years of peace and through too many years of war.
