Homestead (Mystery & Treasures)
The inheritance was unexpected, it came with a career change, what do the people at the ranch know that he does not? It was like winning the lottery or was it? He traded a suit for pair of blue jeans, concrete city streets for dirt roads. The ranch home is 30 miles from the nearest store. The size of the ranch business just means he will crash sooner than later. Dirt rich or dirt poor ranchers are both cash poor. These two women are helpful, is it Western hospitality or is it a way to find out what he knows? What do they want from him? Are they cousins with a hand out for a part of the homestead? What are the skeletons of his family tree got to do with his inheritance? And the pioneer religion he is required to practice as part of the terms. His mentor is a "last days or end of times" theorist and he is required to meet him weekly. Whom does he owe and why? Will those obligations cause bankruptcy? What is this about a mine, what has that got to do with a wheat or hay farmer? Why do the working trucks have rifles in them? And he is paying for two on the payroll with criminal tracking devices. Why do the police park outside his ranch house with the lights of the vehicle off every night? What are they watching for so far from the paved roads? Why is his doors always open even when he locks them?
