The King Is Coming!: A 12 Days of Christmas Devotional by the Midwest Family of Churches

“Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble...” Zechariah 9:9 NLT

For centuries, Israel hoped for God’s promised king to come to them. Prophets and poets predicted his coming and his character in Old Testament books like Isaiah and the Psalms. After enduring centuries of oppression, the Hebrew people’s desire for their true king reached a fever pitch as they languished yet again under the thumb of a foreign empire and a cruel ruler. They searched the scriptures and believed that the time would soon come for their savior to rise up and throw off the yoke of empire. They eagerly awaited salvation. And God delivered.

These 12 devotionals, with contributions from churches in the Midwest Family of Churches, will reveal the king that Israel longed for and show us that he was not the king that they expected. He was, and is, so much more. Merry Christmas!
