Hungred
The final message in the Becoming Hungry: 40 Days of Lent sermon series, preached at Mount Hope Church, in Salisbury, North Carolina, An Hungred concerns Communion and the congregant. The epitome of Christian worship is the receiving of Holy Communion and the embrace of God's Son into Bread and Wine. As indicated in The Scriptures, through numerous passages, this Christian Rite involves the whole of The Church and expresses the divine love that Jesus hands to us, even Himself in physical flesh by food. Covering the miracle of the Feeding of the 5,000, An Hungred stems from Matthew 4:1-2 and ties in John 6, overall, to prove the miracles of Christ, and that they are demonstrated before us when we partake at The Lord's Table. Concluding the season of Lent, and now ascending up to both Calvary and the remainder of the year, we are eating to be full, and consuming to be made whole, when we are enlightened on Easterday in fullness of His life. Are we examining ourselves before approaching? Are we satisfied in Him, or thinking bread or edible morsel alone will grant us peace and/or pardon? All that Jesus is will be contained in the flesh He gives for us and in the blood shed for ours. Without Him, our fragments presented and taken up, our hunger, and our faith relationship with Our Lord means nothing. It is void and vanquished. Reflecting the words of the Gospel of Matthew in this Lenten discourse, the words of the title are spoken well: Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. The 45th publication by Author and Writer Matthew Pope, this last homily works to unveil ourselves with Jesus Christ, having lived sacrificially for these forty days and forty nights, and now ready to be poured out as a drink offering in the Host.
